For twenty-five years, Nest Community Shelter has served as a temporary refuge for those in need within our community, offering emergency shelter, support services, and pathways to stability for neighbors experiencing homelessness. Today, we’re proud to unveil a special 25th anniversary logo that celebrates this milestone and the thousands of lives touched along the way.
A Legacy of Compassion and Action
Since 2001, Nest has evolved from a traveling PADS program, where we changed locations nightly, setting up community rooms and basements in our local faith communities, to our permanent home at the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Michigan City. Nest continues to serve individuals and families facing housing crises in our community. Our mission has remained constant: to reconnect our guests with their community.
Over these 25 years, we’ve sheltered thousands of individuals, connected many to permanent housing, and created a network of community support that extends far beyond our walls. Every individual who has walked through our doors has a story, and many of those stories include chapters of resilience, recovery, and renewed hope.
Looking Forward While Honoring Our Past
This anniversary logo will appear across all our communications and materials throughout 2026 as we celebrate this milestone year. But this isn’t just about looking back, it’s about remaining committed to the work ahead.

The need for emergency shelter and supportive services continues to grow in our community. As we mark 25 years of service, we’re also strengthening our programs, expanding our partnerships, and deepening our impact to meet that need.
