There’s a particular kind of courage it takes to look at a community problem and say, “We’re going to fix this.“ Not lobby for someone else to fix it. Not write a strongly worded letter. Actually build something, from scratch, with heart, grit, volunteer hours, and donated dollars, and an unshakable belief that no one should have to sleep outside in our community.
That’s what a group of dedicated community members did in 2001. And twenty-five years later, we are still building, still serving, and still making Michigan City a more humane place to live for all community members.
This fall, we will mark our 25th anniversary with a gala celebration on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Purdue University Northwest in Westville, and the entire community is invited to join us.
A Legacy That Belongs to La Porte County
Nest didn’t serve our community for 25 years on its own. Our story is inseparable from the thousands of individuals and organizations across La Porte County who have said yes, year after year, to volunteer shifts, to financial gifts, to showing up when it mattered.
September 18th is the night to come together and honor that collective generosity, to see, in one room, the breadth of what it looks like when a community decides that everyone deserves a safe place to land.
What the Evening Will Celebrate
The 25th Anniversary Gala will be more than a dinner. It will be a recognition of a quarter-century of impact: the individuals whose lives were changed by a warm bed and a hand reaching forward; the volunteers who gave their Saturday mornings; the businesses and foundations whose support made operations possible; and the staff who have carried our mission forward every single day.

Details on tickets, table sponsorships, and other giving opportunities will be announced in the coming weeks. Whether you’ve been part of our story from the beginning or you’re just learning what this organization means to Michigan City and La Porte County, this is an evening worth sharing.
