When crisis strikes, there’s no time to wait. The situation is classified as an emergency. At Nest Community Shelter, we understand that emergencies don’t follow a schedule, and neither do we. As La Porte County’s only emergency shelter serving men, women, and women with children, we stand ready to open our doors when our neighbors need us most.

Emergency means emergency. When someone arrives at our doorstep in the middle of the night seeking refuge from domestic violence, when a temporary living situation falls through without notice, or when the bitter winter winds drive someone to seek warmth – we don’t start with paperwork. We start with shelter, safety, and compassion.

While other facilities require screening and an intake process before assisting, Nest is able to take a different approach in emergency situations. We recognize that in true emergencies, the traditional onboarding process may sometimes take a backseat to immediate needs. While we do complete the necessary documentation and client management procedures when appropriate, our priority is providing immediate shelter and support when it matters most in moments of crisis, which don’t always happen between 9 am and 5 pm.

Think about it: Would you want your sister, brother, or friend waiting outside in freezing temperatures while filling out forms? Would you want a mother and her children spending one more night in an unsafe situation because they couldn’t complete the intake process? Neither would we.

What Sets Nest Apart:
– We’re the only shelter in La Porte County that welcomes all: men, women, and women with children
– We provide a true emergency response with immediate shelter when the situation is warranted.
– Our doors are open 24/7 for crisis situations
– We offer follow-up support and case management to help clients connect with vital support services.

As we enter this season of giving, we ask you to consider the vital role Nest plays in our community’s safety net. Every donation helps us keep our doors open and our lights on for those in crisis. Every contribution ensures that when an emergency strikes, there’s always a safe place to turn.

Will you help us continue to be there when our community needs us most? Your support means we can say “yes” when someone reaches out in their darkest hour. Please consider making a donation to Nest Community Shelter today.
